The Box Car found at the Newtown Square Railroad Museum
we believe was built in 1907. It is wooden and typical of the kind of box car that was used on the Pennsylvania Railroad throughout their system – including the freight line which ran between Philadelphia and Newtown Square, servicing farms and businesses that existed along the line.
On this page see a picture from the Stan Short Collection of a similar box car sitting at the Newtown Square PRR Freight Station back when the line was active.
This particular box car was given to us by the National Park Service’s Railroad Museum called Steamtown which is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
